An Oakland teenager was arrested on suspicion of drug possession Saturday afternoon after Scotts Valley police responded to a shoplifting incident. Police were dispatched to Kmart on 270 Mt. Hermon Road after a boy was arrested for shoplifting. He was taken into custody and brought to the police department, where his aunt picked him up, police said. After a check on the boy’s aunt, Latrice Thomas, 29, of Oakland, police found she was on active parole for drug offenses and had an outstanding warrant for traffic offenses in Kern County, according to police officials. Police searched Thomas’ vehicle and located about one ounce of crack cocaine in a purse belonging to her passenger, Brittany Winn, 19, of Oakland. Thomas was cited and released, while Winn was taken into custody after she admitted owning the purse and crack, according to police. A Santa Cruz sheriff’s deputy found another bag in the trunk of the car. The bag held packaging materials and narcotics paraphernalia, police reported. Winn was charged with possession of cocaine for sale and booked at the county jail, police said.
