Police arrested a Redwood City woman on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment in Belmont on Thursday, police said. Police and firefighters responded to a car crash on El Camino Road at Harbor Boulevard at around 4:10 p.m. Responders discovered that a 2002 Mazda Protege appeared to have rear-ended a 2009 BMW sedan. Alla Hajiyena, 55, was driving the Mazda and her 5-year-old granddaughter was a passenger in the car, police said.
Hajiyena was not injured but her granddaughter was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to a hospital for non life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the BMW, a 60-year-old Belmont woman, was also transported to the hospital for non life threatening injuries. Hajiyena was arrested on suspicion of DUI, resulting in injury and child endangerment, police said. She was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City.
