Two San Mateo men suspected of attacking a victim with pipes and bats earlier this month were arrested Wednesday, officials said.Kenneth Estrada Salazar, 18, and Fredy Jose Hernandez, 20, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon at about 5 p.m. Wednesday during a traffic stop in San Mateo, police said.
The victim, who suffered visible injuries and required medical assistance, was assaulted on March 4 at about 4:45 p.m. in the 300 block of North Delaware Street, according to police.Salazar and Hernandez were identified as suspects in the attack by the San Mateo Police Department’s Neighborhood Response Team.
The team, a four-person unit dedicated to gang enforcement and neighborhood problems, assisted with the investigation because officers suspected the attack was gang-related. The two men were booked into San Mateo County Jail, police said.
