A man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman in her Redwood City motel room, police said. Officers were called to the Garden Motel at 1690 Broadway St. in Redwood City just before 5 a.m. Saturday on reports of a woman screaming for help, police said. Upon arrival, police found the victim, an unidentified adult woman, suffering from facial injuries, police said. The woman told police the suspect had entered her motel room assaulted her, and then tried to rape her, police said. The victim was able to escape the room and call for help, she told officers. Police searched the motel and found the suspect, 44-year-old Redwood City resident Maurice Banks, in one of the other rooms, police said. Banks was taken into custody at the motel and later booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of assault with intent to commit rape, police said. The victim had her injuries treated at a local hospital and was then released, police said.
