A 31-year-old San Jose man was arrested last week after a Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputy allegedly caught him videotaping women at a Safeway store in Morgan Hill, police announced today.Morgan Hill police arrested Juan Rodriguez around 5:10 p.m. Thursday at a Safeway located at 840 East Dunne Ave.Officers had responded to a report of an off-duty deputy from the sheriff’s office attempting to arrest a person at the store. They arrived to find the deputy and a Gilroy resident holding down Rodriguez, according to police. The deputy, Sgt. Nuno Ribeiro, told police he began observing Rodriguez because he was acting unusual. Ribeiro said he saw Rodriguez follow several women with a concealed video camera under a box in his hand, which he allegedly would hold at angles to secretly record the women’s breasts and buttocks, police said.Ribeiro said he went up to Rodriguez and attempted to arrest him, but he pulled away and tried to flee. A resident who had overheard Ribeiro introduce himself as a deputy came over to help and the two of them managed to detain Rodriguez, according to police.Neither Ribeiro nor the resident was injured.Rodriguez was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County main jail for using a concealed camera to videotape others for sexual gratification and battery on a police officer, according to police.Officers seized a video camera they found inside Rodriguez’s pocket, police said.As of this afternoon, the district attorney’s office had not yet filed charges against him.
