* Arthur Garcia Killed by Car at Intersection of Monterey Road and West Eighth Street in Gilroy

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified a 62-year-old man who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Gilroy on Thursday morning. Arthur Garcia, a Gilroy resident, was hit at about 6:10 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Monterey Road and West Eighth Street. Garcia was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced, police said. The driver of the vehicle, a blue Nissan Versa, was also transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, according to police.A concrete wall, a metal post and a road sign were damaged in the crash. The cause of the incident is under investigation, but alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, police said.
