Gilroy police believe alcohol may have played a part in the death of a 15-year-old girl who was found passed out at a friend’s home this morning. At about 8:45 a.m., police and emergency crews responded to a home in the 9000 block of Bunting Court for a report of a girl in physical distress. The 911 caller said the victim was passed out and having difficulty breathing, police said.The girl was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Although the official cause of death is not yet known, police believe alcohol poisoning may have contributed to her death. Investigators believe the 15-year-old girl had gone to a female friend’s house for a sleepover, and a third girl was also at the home. In the early morning hours today, the girls drank alcohol that was brought to the home. How the alcohol was obtained remains under investigation, according to police.The victim was the daughter of a Gilroy firefighter. Her identity is not being released at this time to allow the family to grieve and allow the investigation to continue, police said. The Gilroy Unified School District has been notified about the incident and will prepare for grief counseling at the victim’s school when classes resumes Monday.
