A 29-year-old man who was shot in the face in front of his three children in a road rage incident in Oakland’s Fruitvale District is in
critical but stable condition today, according to Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason. The shooting occurred about 4:50 p.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of Salisbury Street, Thomason said. The 29-year-old man, an Oakland resident whose name hasn’t been
released, was blocking the street with his car and a man in another vehicle bumped his car, Thomason said. The two men exchanged words and then got into a fight, he said. The 29-year-old man got the better of the other man in the fight, but the other man went back to his car and got a rifle from a passenger. The other man then shot the 29-year-old man in the face in front of his children, who are ages 13, 9 and 6, according to Thomason. The driver of the other car and the passenger then fled the scene. The 29-year-old man was then taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said.Thomason said investigators have “very good witnesses and very good evidence” and are hopeful they can solve the case soon. The suspected shooter and his passenger are both considered to be suspects in the incident. He said the passenger is a suspect because he’s considered to be an accomplice for giving the rifle to the driver, according to Thomason.
