A teacher accused of inappropriately touching his students at a middle school in South San Francisco did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance Monday, according to San Mateo County prosecutors. Joseph Goodman Toy, a 39-year-old San Bruno resident, taught computer science at Westborough Middle School for 13 years, but district personnel say he’s been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his case.
Toy stands accused of molesting at least four of his male students, all of whom were 13 or 14, despite a warning from administrators not to touch them after complaints surfaced that he was putting the boys on his lap, kissing the back of their necks and placing his hands on their stomachs and chests underneath their shirts, prosecutors said.
These incidents allegedly occurred on campus or in a hotel room during a school trip to Disneyland in April. During Toy’s appearance Monday afternoon, the court granted a request for time to retain a private attorney. He’s scheduled to appear again on May 30 for further arraignment and to enter a plea.
