MUNCIE, Indiana – A Muncie man was arrested early Tuesday after he was allegedly captured on video physically abusing his two sons, ages 2 years and 11 months, respectively.
Winsor Alan Barnes, 18, is accused of, among other things, “kicking and smacking the children,” an affidavit said. The video allegedly shows him grabbing the younger child by his throat, striking him in the face, and also kicking at least one of the children.
The children’s mother and grandmother told police they hid cameras in the family’s trailer, in Burlington Mobile Home Park, after becoming suspicious that Barnes might be abusing the children.
Barnes told police he watched his sons each day when their mother went to work.
Asked by an officer why he kicked and hit his children, Barnes reportedly said, “I kick with him all the time… In the video, I was kind of going too hard, but to me, I felt I wasn’t going that hard.
“I should have noticed when he was crying… That’s how I play with them.”
An officer took photographs of the boys’ “injuries,” a report said, and Child Protective Services were notified about the arrest.
Preliminarily charged with battery to a person under the age of 14 and neglect of a dependent, Barnes was being held in the Delaware County jail under a $15,000 bond.
