San Jose State University Student Kidnapping Turns Out a Hoax

On Saturday, May 27, 2017, at approximately 1:00 AM, the Coos County Sheriff’s Department in Oregon contacted the San Jose Police Department to report that they received a call from a citizen who found a frightened woman running down the road.

Deputies made contact with the victim who stated she was kidnapped from San Jose by a suspect armed with a knife. The San Jose Police Department launched a criminal investigation and worked with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and San Jose State University Police Department.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, detectives from the San Jose Police Department’s Robbery Unit were able to locate and meet with the victim. During the interview, the victim recanted the allegations and stated she fabricated the entire incident.

The community is not at risk and no suspects are wanted in connection with this investigation. No other information is available at this time.
