SANTA ANA — Police have arrested a man they say was caught on surveillance video smacking a 7-Eleven clerk and damaging cash registers earlier this year.
Tipsters identified Daniel Fine, 41, of Santa Ana after police released the video to the public, authorities said.
Detectives obtained a $25,000 warrant for Fine’s arrest and took him into custody on Tuesday, April 18, after finding him at a sober-living home in Santa Ana, police announced.
On Feb. 11, a man, now identified as Fine, was trying to pay at the 7-Eleven on First and Flower streets but became violent and destructive when his card payment was not accepted by the machine. The video appears to show the suspect arguing with the cashier behind the counter.
Fine allegedly hit the cashier in the head before shoving down the cash register and throwing a banana at another clerk. He caused about $700 in damage to the store’s equipment, Santa Ana police said.
Fine is in custody on suspicion of battery on a person and vandalism with damage to property.
