Police in Milpitas arrested an Oakland man Wednesday in connection with an alleged commercial burglary. Chardel Ray Malone, 51, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and probation violation.

Officers with the Milpitas Police Department responded Wednesday at 5:24 a.m. to the Walgreens at 342 W. Calaveras Blvd. after an alarm went off. Responding officers saw Malone walking away from the business and allegedly carrying bags of stolen merchandise, police said. Malone allegedly ran away from officers but was captured after a short chase and was allegedly found in possession of approximately $3,000 in stolen cigarettes, police said. Police located his vehicle and allegedly found a small amount of crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine inside.

Police said Malone is currently on probation in Alameda County for burglary. On June 20, 2016, police investigated a similar burglary at a Walgreens at 1833 Milpitas Blvd. Malone was identified as a suspect in that burglary after being identified in surveillance video. Police said $4,400 worth of cigarettes was stolen in that burglary.
