Brendan Newanforbi Arrested in Connection with Sexual Assault

A San Jose man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a sexual assault that took place near a Santa Clara elementary school earlier this year, Santa Clara police said. Brendan Newanforbi, 20, was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and assault with intent to commit rape.

He is being held without bail and will be arraigned on Friday afternoon. The assault was reported around 8:09 a.m. on Feb. 26 on a sidewalk at Lafayette Way and Poplar Street, near Washington Open Elementary School and Buchser Middle School, police said. The victim, a woman, fought back and the suspect ran north on Lafayette. She initially described the suspect as being between 30 and 40 years old.
