One of Santa Clara’s top police officials is in Europe performing a very special function for the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
Assistant Chief Dan Winter was chosen to represent Northern California as a “Guardian of the Flame,” according to police officials.
He helped to run the Olympic torch through Austria and deliver it to the opening ceremonies Saturday in the city of Schladming.
The Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” was brought onto the stage by 120 flame bearers and seven Special Olympics athletes.
