Luis Alfredo Sandoval Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting a Woman Before Fatally Stabbing a man in San Jose

A 22-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman before fatally stabbing a man two months ago in San Jose has been arrested, police said today. San Jose resident Luis Alfredo Sandoval, 20, is a suspect in death of Eric Christopher Hampton, 22, of Oakland, during the early morning hours of July 24, police said.

The 20-year-old man is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman before the stabbing, according to police. Around 1:45 a.m. that day, officers responded to a report of a person stabbed in the area of South Second and Martha streets and found a man later identified as Hampton, police said.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries, according to police. Detectives identified Sandoval as a suspect and arrested him in Los Altos on Friday, police said. The death was the city’s 28th homicide this year, according to police.
