Police today identified a man killed in a shooting in Richmond Tuesday evening as 23-year-old Sirmonte Bernstine, police said. Two other men were injured in the shooting near a Richmond apartment complex, a police lieutenant said. Officers on patrol in the area of the 3900 block of Fleming Avenue heard shots fired around 7:20 p.m., said Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill.
The department’s ShotSpotter activation system recorded the gunshots while the officers were en route to the scene, Hill said. Officers arrived to find three men with apparent gunshot wounds and Hill said Bernstine, a Richmond resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured men were in stable condition as of Tuesday evening, Hill said. As of Wednesday morning, a Richmond police spokeswoman said no suspect or suspects had been identified.
