Police this week announced they have closed a 2014 suspicious death investigation after concluding two July deaths in Sausalito were the result of a murder-suicide. Police said Robyn Chan, 51, of Sausalito, shot and killed Mara Truly, 42, of Sacramento, on July 20 and then turned the gun on himself. The deaths occurred at a residence in the 100 block of San Carlos Avenue.

Officers responded to the residence and made entry to check on the welfare of the people inside and found Chan and Truly dead. Police said autopsies performed on July 22 determined both subjects died from gunshot wounds. Investigators recovered five weapons from the scene, four of which were registered to Chan and one that was unregistered.

Police submitted crime scene evidence, including gunshot residue, DNA, fingerprints and firearms ballistics, to the Department of Justice laboratories for forensic analysis. Police said there is overwhelming evidence indicating Chan killed Truly by shooting her multiple times with a .357 revolver and then shot himself with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
