Police are seeking two suspects in a shooting that did not result in any injuries at an apartment complex in Salinas this evening, police said. An officer on patrol just after 5 p.m. in the 500 block of Williams Road heard gunshots and drove into the area, police said. Witnesses began pointing towards a sports utility vehicle that was driving away, and police said the officer tried to stop the car as it pulled into another apartment complex.
Police said the officer soon realized the occupants in the car were actually the intended targets of the gunfire. Witnesses told police two occupants of the SUV were speaking with two other men outside of the car when one of the men pulled out a gun and fired at the pair. The victims then ran to the SUV and drove away, police said.
The suspected shooters were last seen jumping a fence in the area of Cross Avenue, police said. Officers set up a perimeter and searched for the suspects with the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, but police said they did not find the men. The shooters missed the two victims but struck a nearby apartment, police said.
