Two men have been arrested for allegedly picking up a man at the San Bruno Caltrain station and then robbing him on Monday night, San Mateo County sheriff’s officials said. Steven Smith, 45, of Daly City, and Anthony White, 23, of San Francisco, were arrested in connection with an incident that began around 9 p.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim, a 22-year-old Sacramento man, was at the Caltrain station at 833 San Mateo Ave. in San Bruno waiting for a southbound train to Palo Alto when he agreed to take a car ride from Smith, sheriff’s officials said. Smith then allegedly picked up White in Millbrae and instead of continuing south to Palo Alto, the pair took the victim to the entrance of San Bruno Mountain County Park, threatened him and demanded his wallet and backpack, according to the sheriff’s office.
After handing over his property, the victim was allowed to exit the car uninjured and the suspects drove away in a dark older-model sedan, sheriff’s officials said. Sheriff’s investigators eventually identified the suspects and found and arrested them in the 100 block of Olcese Court in Daly City.
Smith was booked into jail under $170,000 bail on suspicion of felony robbery, kidnapping, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, while White was booked under $160,000 on suspicion of felony robbery, kidnapping and receiving stolen property, sheriff’s officials said.
