A 19-year-old man was wounded in a gunfight late Sunday between two groups of males near a pizza restaurant in Salinas but he refused to give a statement to police, according to a police spokesman.

At 11:29 p.m. Sunday, police were called about shots fired close to a Little Caesars eatery at 45 S. Sanborn Road by two groups of Hispanic males after they had yelled at each other, Salinas police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Ramsden said. Officers arrived at the address and located several shell casings from bullets in the parking lot, according to Ramsden.

After a short time, the 19-year-old victim was dropped off at Natividad Medical Center with minor grazing gunshot wounds to his forehead and lower back, police said. When police contacted the victim, he refused to cooperate, Ramsden said.

At 12:25 a.m. today, officers located the vehicle that had taken the victim to hospital and found 24-year-old Julian Fernandez inside it, according to police. Fernandez, who had a warrant for his arrest, also refused to cooperate with police, who found that the vehicle had gunshot damage, according to Ramsden. Police took Fernandez into custody on the warrant, he said.
