Five Deer Valley High School students were arrested on suspicion of gun, drug, and gambling crimes Wednesday after they were caught illegally gambling, according to Antioch police.
Police said detectives were conducting undercover surveillance in the area of Lone Tree Way and Deer Valley Road around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when they spotted a group of teenage boys involved in what appeared to be illegal gambling.
When the detectives approached the group, the boys scattered. Police said all five boys were ultimately detained and arrested.
One of the boys was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm, another was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and a probation violation, while two others were arrested for gambling and the fifth boy was arrested for loitering.
Police said the undercover operation that led to the arrests is “part of our continuing effort to increase the safety in and around Deer Valley High School and Deer Valley Plaza.”
In recent months, police have responded to numerous reports of fights involving Deer Valley High students in the Deer Valley Plaza shopping center.
