San Rafael police arrested a man and a woman Saturday on suspicion of sexually exploiting and trafficking a young woman as a prostitute, police said today.

Police arrested Shawn Buckly, 20, of Novato, and Jazmin Moniq Khayami, 21, of San Anselmo, in Novato on suspicion of felony human trafficking charges and misdemeanor probation violations, police said.

Officers received information from the FBI that there was a possible underage female being sexually exploited on an escort website, police said.

Officers arranged to meet the minor during a prostitution sting and contacted her at a local hotel. Police said the officers discovered she is actually a young adult.

Police said the young woman told officers she was being sexually exploited and trafficked by a man and a woman, later identified as Buckly and Khayami.

Officers found the suspects driving on Redwood Boulevard in Novato and police said the officers followed them to a hotel in the 8100 block of Redwood Boulevard.

When the officers stopped the suspects’ vehicle, police said the officers located additional evidence that indicates the victim had been sexually exploited and trafficked as a prostitute.

Buckly and Khayami were arrested and booked at the Marin County Jail.

Police said the victim was referred to services through an advocacy organization.
