A couple sitting in a car at a Berkeley overlook early today were robbed at gunpoint and kidnapped, according to University of California at Berkeley police. The couple, a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old male, were parked at a dirt turn-out on Grizzly Peak Boulevard around 2 a.m. today, sitting in their vehicle looking out toward the Bay when three suspects approached them, according to police.
The suspects, two of whom were armed with guns and one with a baseball bat, demanded money. When the victims did not have any money, one suspect got into their vehicle and ordered them to drive to an ATM while the other suspects drove behind them in a second vehicle. The victims took money out at an ATM and gave the money to the suspects, and then the suspects left the area. The victims, who are not affiliated with UC Berkeley, were not injured.
The suspects were described as three white males. The first was around 5 feet 5 inches tall with a slim build; the second around 6 feet 3 inches tall with a medium build; and a third was around 5 feet 5 inches tall with a slim build, wearing a black beanie-style cap and a red hooded sweatshirt. The suspect vehicle was described as a red four-door “square” type vehicle, according to police.
