Deputies arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed a woman several times in unincorporated Salinas on Monday evening, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding deputies arrived at Blanco and Davis roads at 5:13 p.m. Monday on reports of a stabbing occurring inside a vehicle.

Christian Barrera, 22, of Salinas, and the victim were involved in a verbal argument inside the vehicle when Barrera stabbed her multiple times in the chest and hand with a serrated kitchen knife, sheriff’s officials said.

Barrera drove off in the woman’s vehicle and was caught by deputies shortly after, only to flee on foot before being shocked with a Taser and taken into custody.

The woman was transported to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
