Police arrested a 38-year-old man today after he led police on a high-speed chase through Santa Rosa Friday, police said. Police arrested Jason Duane Buck of Santa Rosa in Cloverdale on suspicion of felony evasion of police and possession of marijuana for sale. Police attempted to stop a white Honda sports utility vehicle on Highway 101 near Asti Road in Santa Rosa at 2:51 p.m. on Friday when the driver in the vehicle refused to stop, police said.
The driver led police along Asti Road, onto E. First Street, River Road and Geysers Road at speeds reaching 85 miles per hour, police said. The nearly eight-mile chase lasted roughly seven minutes before the officer decided to end the pursuit on Geysers Road. Roughly 45 minutes later, a Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputy found the vehicle down a steep ravine, about half a mile from where the officer terminated the pursuit, police said.
The vehicle was more than 100 yards off the roadway and had major damage, police said. The driver had left the car by the time police arrived, but police said two people inside the car remained and were seriously injured. With the help of the Sonoma County helicopter, Henry 1, authorities extricated the occupants from the car and transported them to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
Police found roughly four pounds of marijuana along the pursuit route, which officers believe may have been thrown out of the car during the chase. Henry 1, along with officers on the ground, performed a search for the suspect but were unable to locate him, police said. Authorities found Buck the following day in Cloverdale and arrested him. Police said he was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into county jail.
