A Sonoma County jury convicted a Turlock man Wednesday of robbing a Sonoma Lucky Supermarket employee at gunpoint as she walked to work through the store’s parking lot last year. Mark Antonio Padilla, 21, was wearing a mask when he got out of his pickup truck and demanded the woman’s purse at gunpoint on July 31, 2013, Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said.
The woman threw her lunch bag at Padilla and ran inside the store, and employees called 911 as Padilla fled in his truck, Ravitch said. Napa County sheriff’s deputies pulled the truck over in American Canyon. Deputies found replica guns that matched the weapon in the Lucky’s robbery, a black ski mask and the victim’s purse in the truck, Ravitch said. Padilla faces a maximum term of five years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 6.
Padilla also was convicted in May of attempted robbery on Jan. 8 at a Starbucks in Manteca, Ravitch said. In that incident, Padilla, wearing a ski mask, banged on the drive-thru window with a gun and demanded the employee sorting her cash drawer open the window, Ravitch said.
