A man who was fatally shot near the Berkeley Marina on Tuesday night was identified by police today as 21-year-old Damarco Thomas of Stockton. However, East Bay Regional Park District police said the shooting in the area of the Sea Breeze Market and Deli at 598 University Avenue near the entrance of McLaughlin Eastshore State Park at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday is still unsolved and they are seeking the public’s help in locating a person of interest and a suspect vehicle.
Police said officers who responded to reports of a disturbance in the area found Thomas on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. East Bay parks police, who are investigating the shooting because it occurred in their jurisdiction, said they are attempting to identify a heavyset black male in his late 20s to early 30s who was in the area before the shooting. They said they also are looking for information on a white Ford or Chevy-style pick up truck with an extended cab, possibly a step-side model.
