A woman was robbed of a necklace she was wearing while walking home in Belmont on Friday, police said. Officers responded to reports of a possible domestic disturbance in the 500 block of the Mountain View Avenue around 5:40 p.m., police said. Arriving officers later determined the incident was a strong-arm robbery in which a woman was walking home on Mountain View Avenue at Yorkshire Avenue where a black SUV stopped at the corner, according to police.
A man stepped out of the SUV and grabbed the woman’s arm resulting in a struggle, police said. The woman fell down and the man grabbed a gold chain hanging from her neck before he fled in the SUV, according to police. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling south on Yorkshire Way toward Marine View Avenue, police said. The woman was not injured in the robbery. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or light-skinned Black man in his 20s, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build and short, thick dark hair, police said.
He was wearing a black sweatshirt and dark jeans at the time of the incident. The suspect vehicle is described as a newer black mid-size SUV, similar to a Lexus or Acura, according to police. Police are looking to speak with residents in the area with security cameras installed at their homes that may have captured the robbery.
