Santa Cruz Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man suspected of helping an intoxicated person into their home before thoroughly burglarizing the residence on September 21. The victim told deputies that he was intoxicated while walking to his home in the 2000 block of East Cliff Drive around 6:40 p.m., according to Santa Cruz Sgt. Kelly Kent. The victim attempted to flag down passing cars for a ride home and was picked up near Sunny Cove Drive by a 90’s model dark-colored imported vehicle with an unidentified male driver and a female toddler believed to be the driver’s daughter, Kent said.
The driver helped the victim get back into his house and waited inside the residence until the victim fell asleep. Over a period of four hours, the driver, accompanied by the toddler, took two big-screen televisions, various pieces of furniture, a laptop computer, golf clubs, two men’s suits, and a tuxedo, according to Kent. The suspect moved in and out of the residence several times as he loaded his car with the victim’s property, Kent said.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man approximately 20 years of age, wearing black shoes, white socks, black shorts, a white T-shirt, and a black beanie with multi-colored stripes, according to Kent. The entire incident was captured on the home’s video surveillance system, Kent said.
