A man was arrested Sunday morning in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a park in Salinas, police said. Jimmy Little Rodriguez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, probation violation and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to Salinas police. Police said the victim was walking in Natividad Creek Park at 8:33 a.m. when he was approached by three men, one being Rodriguez.
Police said Rodriguez pulled out a shotgun, pointed it at the victim’s head and demanded his wallet and money. The victim ran away and was uninjured. Police said witnesses directed responding officers to the area where the suspects fled and all three were located. Police also located a shotgun in the park. Police said Rodriguez was the only one of the three people detained who was believed to be involved in the attempted robbery. The other two were identified and released.
