Police are investigating a Clayton man’s murder in Bakersfield over the weekend, a police spokesman said.
Christopher Wagstaff, 43, was found lying on the ground in front of the Kern County Superior Courthouse on Truxtun Avenue at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, Bakersfield police Sgt. Joe Grubbs said.
Grubbs declined to say whether he was found with any gunshot or stab wounds or other evidence indicating how he was killed, saying the investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
The spokesman said Wagstaff’s body was found the day after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment in the Lake Isabella area, located about 45 minutes outside of Bakersfield.
The arrest happened around 11 p.m. last Friday and he was booked into Kern County Jail in Bakersfield around 4:30 a.m. Saturday and released at 10:22 p.m., Grubbs said.
“We’re looking at the period between 10:22 p.m. and 7:22 a.m.,” he said, adding that there is nothing to indicate Wagstaff’s killing was related to his arrest.
