Santa Cruz County sheriff’s deputies assisted last week in two cases where stolen property was recovered after suspects tried to sell it on Craigslist, sheriff’s officials said. On July 29, the theft of four automotive tires was reported from parked cars at Dr. Auto Import Car Repair, located in the 6000 block of state Highway 9 in Felton, according to the sheriff’s office.

The business owner located the tires being sold on Craigslist and notified the sheriff’s office. Deputies contacted the seller to meet last Tuesday in the parking lot of the Toys “R” Us store in Santa Cruz and arrested 30-year-old Felton resident Jarrod Barr, sheriff’s officials said. Barr was booked into jail on suspicion of grand theft, possession of stolen property and tampering with a vehicle and the four tires were returned to the auto shop, according to the sheriff’s office.

At 5:17 p.m. last Tuesday, deputies received a report from a Santa Cruz resident who had been selected as a Santa Cruz County Superior Court juror and had his $1,200 specialized mountain bicycle stolen from outside the courthouse bike rack earlier that day. Two days later, deputies responded to the Felton Fair Shopping Center, where the juror’s wife had arranged to meet with someone to purchase the bicycle after she found it being sold on Craigslist.

The seller, 34-year-old Santa Cruz resident Noah Nelson, told deputies he had received the bike from a third party, but video surveillance footage from the courthouse showed him cutting the bike lock and taking the bike from the courthouse steps, sheriff’s officials said. Nelson was booked into jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
