Two electric bicycles were stolen from a bike shop in Morgan Hill on Thursday morning, police said. At about 6:20 a.m., an unidentified male suspect used a burglary tool to shatter the front window of Concept Cyclery located at 1295 E. Dunne Ave. near the intersection of Murphy Avenue, police said. The suspect then entered the shop and used bolt cutters to remove a bike lock from two Specialized Turbo S electric-assisted bicycles, according to police.
The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction with the two bikes. Officers arrived on scene four minutes after being notified of the burglary, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect’s image was captured on surveillance video and he is described as a Hispanic male with a stocky build. He was wearing khaki cargo shorts, dark-colored shoes and a gray Ecko Unlimited hooded sweatshirt at the time of the burglary.
Police said the stolen electric-assisted bicycles are new to the market and have a unique design. One of the stolen bikes was black and the other was red with black lettering, police said. The bicycles retail for about $6,000 each, according to the Specialized website. According to the manufacturer, the electric-assisted bicycles can reach up to 27 mph.
