On 8/14/2014 approximately 10:36 A.M., the San Jose Police Department responded to 700 block of Blossom Hill Road on a report of a person who was threatening to kill her family with an Uzi assault weapon. The subject exited the residence after officers arrived and did not comply with officer’s verbal commands to drop the weapon. The suspect then pointed the weapon (later determined to be a cordless drill that was completely painted flat black) directly at the officers. In fear for her safety and the safety of the public, Officer Wakana Okuma fired at the subject striking her at least once. The subject was transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The involved officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
