A man suspected of participating in a shooting over two months ago was arrested in Watsonville on Friday, according to Watsonville police. Ramiro Castillo was arrested and charged with attempted murder for his suspected involvement in a shooting that occurred in the area of 217 Marchant Street on June 3, police said.
Castillo managed to elude police for almost two months after he evaded capture during a long-term standoff with SWAT team members that occurred at 143 West Beach Street on June 11, according to police. On Friday Watsonville police received an anonymous tip that Castillo was at 18 Evelyn Drive. Castillo fled on foot when officers arrived in the area, jumping over several fences and hiding in a back yard before being arrested without further incident, police said.
The arrest was made possible by the anonymous person who notified authorities of Castillo’s location, police said. Castillo was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail and is being held on $750,000 bail.
