A Salinas man was arrested in Watsonville Saturday after police said he was possession of an illegally altered gun and driving under the influence. David Perez Soria, 36, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, possession of an illegally altered firearm and making terrorist threats. Police responded at 3:29 p.m. to 1404 Freedom Blvd. to reports of a man with a gun.
Police said witnesses pointed out Soria and his vehicle to responding officers, and he was taken into custody at gunpoint. Witnesses told investigators Soria was involved in a disturbance in a nearby parking lot. Police said officers found a pistol grip shotgun with the serial numbers removed in the trunk of Soria’s Lexus sedan.
Police said Soria had threatened several people in the area and backed into another vehicle as he was trying to leave the scene. Police said Soria had been drinking alcohol, and preliminary tests indicated his blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit to drive. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Cruz County Jail.
