Gary Bryant Jr. arrested for alleged murder of Kenneth Hooper Jr. in Antioch

A man who was critically wounded in a shooting in Antioch earlier this month has been arrested on suspicion of murder for the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Pittsburg man during the same incident, police said today. Gary Bryant Jr., 28, was struck by gunfire during the shooting in the parking lot of the Delta View Apartments in the 3900 block of Delta Fair Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. on July 8, police said.

Kenneth Hooper Jr. was shot and killed while sitting in a car in the parking lot in the same incident, according to police. Police Sgt. Tony Morefield declined to say whether the incident was a shootout or whether other suspects were involved, saying the investigation is ongoing. Bryant fled immediately after the shooting to a neighboring apartment complex on Hudson Court, where he was found a short time later and taken to a hospital.

While he was in the hospital, police arrested Bryant on suspicion of murder, robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm and kept him under guard, Morefield said. He was arraigned on the same charges while still in the hospital and later was transferred to county jail in Martinez, the sergeant said.
