An alleged gang member was arrested in Santa Rosa early this morning after running from police and throwing a gun from his waistband, according to police. Police said the arrest happened around 4 a.m. as officers responded to reports of a large fight on West Ninth Street, possibly associated with a nearby party.
Officers arrived on the scene and saw four people wearing what appeared to be gang attire inside a Chevrolet Impala on Rockwell Place. An officer saw a passenger quickly exit the car and start to run while grabbing at his waistband, police said. The officer told the suspect to stop but he continued running. As the officer chased the suspect, he saw him remove something from his waistband and toss it into the yard at the Puerto Villa apartment complex, according to police.
Additional officers intercepted the suspect, identified as alleged gang member, 19-year-old Eliezer Reyes Apresa, according to police. Officers also recovered the handgun allegedly thrown by the suspect during the chase. Apresa was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes including being a gang member in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest and taken to county jail. Two other people inside the Impala also ran from the car but were not located. The driver of the car, also a known gang member, was located but not arrested, police said.
