Santa Rosa police today identified the man who was shot by the owner of Bennett Valley Jewelers during a robbery Thursday afternoon as 43-year-old Jimmy L. Terry, of Oakland, a parolee who was released from prison within the past two weeks.
Terry, who served a “significant” prison sentence for home invasion, was shot at least four times in the upper body during an exchange of gunfire with the storeowner during the 1:40 p.m. robbery at the store at 2700 Yulupa Ave., Sgt. John Cregan said.
Police said Terry’s wounds are life-threatening, and Cregan said this morning Terry was in stable condition at a local hospital.
The second robbery suspect is still at large. Police do not believe he is still in the Santa Rosa area, and it’s believed he was shot in the leg or lower abdomen during the robbery, Cregan said.
He is described as a tall black man with a heavy build. Police released two photographs of the second suspect that were taken inside the store by a surveillance camera.
A female employee of the jewelry store was shot in the arm and is in stable condition, Cregan said.
The robbers smashed several display counters and took Rolex watches, but a backpack containing them was left at the scene when the robbers fled, Cregan said.
The Santa Rosa Police Department is offering up to $2,500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the robbers. The reward money comes from the Sonoma County Alliance’s Take Back Our Community Program.
Three men attempted a robbery at Bennett Valley Jewelers in July 2013. They were caught and charged for the attempted robbery.
