Marques Adrian Gaines Arrested In Shooting That Left A Man Dead And Another Injured In Monterey Co.

Deputies have made an arrest in a Wednesday night shooting in an unincorporated area south of Salinas that left one man dead and another injured, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Marques Adrian Gaines, 33, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Gaines was taken into custody in the Antioch area and has been returned to Monterey County.

Deputies were called to Adams Street in Chualar just before midnight Wednesday on a report of a shooting in an agricultural field, sheriff’s office officials said.

Gabriel Javon Rodriguez Jr., 19, was found dead at the scene and Rafael O. Vasquez, 20, was flown to a Santa Clara County hospital and was later released.
