A 36-year old Salinas man is in custody following his arrest Saturday evening on suspicion of stabbing his girlfriend to death earlier that day, a police spokesman said today.
Florencio Anselmo was captured at about 5 p.m. Saturday while hiding in an apartment on San Benito Circle in Salinas just east of U.S. Highway 101, police spokesman Spencer Critchley said.
Anselmo is the suspect in the slaying of 44-year-old Maria Ceja, who was stabbed in the chest near her residence in the 300 block of Central Avenue shortly after she arrived home at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.
According to police, Anselmo was waiting in a parking lot for Ceja, his girlfriend for the past year. The two then got into an argument before Ceja was stabbed.
Anselmo was seen running away from the scene, police said.
Ceja was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.
