Vancouver Police Officer Dustin Goudschaal Shot During Traffic Stop

UPDATE July 21,2014 The death of a Clark County Jail inmate accused of shooting a Vancouver police officer during a routine traffic stop last month was ruled a suicide by hanging. The death marks the first suicide in the jail since 2012. The Clark County Medical Examiner said that James T. Sapp, 48, died of asphyxia after attempting suicide in his jail cell.

On June 30th, 2014, at about 12pm Vancouver police officer Dustin Goudschaal was shot while conducting a routine traffic stop. Officer Goudschaal on a motorcycle stop a car that turned out to be a stolen vehicle when Suspect James Todd Sapp allegedly shot Officer Goudschaal multiple times.

Sapp and an accomplice then fled the scene. Police captured one suspect immediately after the shooting and a second suspect surrendered more than two hours later, according to Vancouver Police Chief James McElvain.
