A Georgia couple claims they locked their 13-year-old son in a small basement room for two years for “disciplinary reasons,” according to police. Parents Recardo and Therian Wimbush have been charged with child cruelty and false imprisonment.

The child and nine brothers and sisters were all placed in protective custody.

Recardo Wimbush, 33, was a star football player at Georgia Tech from 1999 to 2002. He was a linebacker who signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons but was cut before the season started.
