A male suspect tried to rob a Castroville gas station’s store Tuesday morning but ran away before he got any money, Monterey County sheriff’s officials said today.

The suspect went to the Valero Corner Store at 11775 Merritt St. at 11:27 a.m. and demanded money while indicating that he had a weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

However, the clerk was slow handing the money over and the suspect ran away empty-handed.

The suspect was described as a white male standing 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds. He remains at large, according to the sheriff’s office.
