Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officers arrested a Stockton man on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle after a pursuit early this morning.
The chase began when Officer Nicholas Labonte tried to stop a vehicle that had one headlight out near Redwood Drive and Commerce Boulevard around 12:35 a.m., according to the department.
The vehicle sped away at more than 100 mph on northbound U.S. Highway 101 and Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies joined the pursuit near Bellevue Avenue, officers said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a fence on Bellevue Avenue. The vehicle landed upside down and the driver ran behind a nearby auto mall, officers said.
Labonte and the sheriff’s deputies caught the driver after a brief pursuit. He was identified as Somphat Kala, 30, of Stockton, a parolee at large, according to the department.
Somphat was treated at a hospital for minor injuries he suffered in the crash and was then booked in Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of an outstanding warrant, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, evading officers and possession of suspected methamphetamine.
Authorities learned the vehicle was stolen, but the car’s owner was unaware until contacted by investigators.
