Jennings Police Sergeant Ricky Benoit Shot on Domestic Disturbance Call

On June 23, 2014, Jennings Police Sergeant Ricky Benoit was shot in the neck during a domestic call.

Sergeant Ricky Benoit and his partner were on a disturbance call when the female victim told them a man was hiding in the house. The officers were searching the residence, when the suspect, George D. Lowdins who was hiding in a bathroom closet, allegedly shot Sergeant Benoit in the neck.

Lowdins was then subdued by another officer and arrested. According to state police, Lowdins allegedly admitted to the shooting.

Sergeant Benoit was transported to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

According to police, Lowdins has been charged with attempted first degree murder of a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer by flight and domestic abuse battery.
