A Watsonville man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on Thursday afternoon in Santa Cruz, sheriff’s deputies said.
At about 12:45 p.m. the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Eric Miller, went inside his former neighbor’s home against her will. The home is located in the 2300 Block of Byer Road near Maciel Avenue in Santa Cruz, deputies said.
Miller then exposed himself to the victim. She yelled for help while attempting to run out of the house, deputies said.
Miller grabbed the victim and pinned her to the ground, according to deputies.
The victim was eventually able to struggle free from Miller and flee to a neighbor’s house where she called 911, sheriff’s deputies said.
The suspect fled the home and was located by Santa Cruz police officers a couple blocks away in the 5200 block of Soquel Avenue, where Miller was acting unusually and gaining the attention of passersby.
Sheriff’s detectives contacted Miller and investigated the suspected sexual assault at the home on Byer Road.
Miller was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for burglary with the intent to commit rape and false imprisonment, deputies said.
