A man armed with a hatchet robbed a 7-Eleven convenience store in Walnut Creek late Sunday night, police said today.

Police said the robbery happened a short time after 11 p.m. at the 7-Eleven at 301 N. Civic Drive.

The suspect entered the store carrying a hatchet, wore a white T-shirt or towel over his head and face, and demanded cash from a store clerk, according to police.

He then fled the scene in a newer, silver four-door car with an undisclosed amount of money from the store.

Police said the store employee was uninjured in the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid to late 20s with a medium build who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery.
