A suspected drunk driver was arrested after allegedly leading police on a brief pursuit in Sonoma County on Sunday night, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
The incident began at 9:33 p.m. when an officer pulled over a vehicle driving recklessly in the area of Rohnert Park Expressway and Rancho Verde Circle. The driver stopped, but when the officer started to get out of his patrol vehicle, the driver sped away, public safety officials said.
A pursuit ensued onto U.S. Highway 101 to Stony Point Road, then east on state Highway 116 toward Cotati, where officers lost sight of the vehicle, public safety officials said. However, they spotted it shortly afterward at the Highway 101-Highway 116 interchange after the car had collided with another vehicle.
The suspect vehicle tried to enter the northbound off-ramp of Highway 101 driving south, but an officer rammed the car before it could drive away. The driver was then taken into custody and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. His name was not immediately being released, according to public safety officials.
